Vanessa Gordon is a Tolai woman from Bitapabeke Village in East New Britain Papua New Guinea.
Born in Papua New Guinea, raised in Hawaii by her New Zealander father Vanessa now lives in Brisbane Australia.
She is a published poet, author, and short film creator and is passionate about telling stories and sharing culture through storytelling. Her creative writing is inspired by the Gunantuna (Tolai people)
The Gunantuna stories of migration, history, ceremonies, legends, societies, moieties and legends are a significant part of her work and Vanessa is proud to share these stories with her readers and lures them in on a magical journey with words.
Vanessa’s poetry is written to invoke feelings of empowerment and to raise awareness for domestic violence, mental health, cultural preservation, climate change, social justice and inequities amongst marginalised communities from the Pacific.
